I have read about such houses in books
And hear ugly things about them too.
The Mario twins died last winter,
After they packed into a similar house,
Though it was rumoured to be cancer,
I knew it was something about the new house.
Yet father had insisted on buying the house in greenwood,
Probably because it was cheaper,
But I overheard mother grumbling about father’s new mistress,
Living in the same area.
We packed in few days later,
And it was worse than the stories written in books,
The house reminds me of my last days in Hunters high school,
Experience which I never want to recall.
The furniture were antique but neat and fantastic,
I wonder who did the job.
I slept off in my new room thinking of the mysteries of our new house,
I woke up in the middle of the night,
I was sure someone tapped me.

I switched on my light wondering who switched it off because it was on while I fell asleep.
I heard a slight knock on my day,
It must be mother, I thought.
Coming to tell me what father did probably while I was fast asleep,
Nevertheless I need a company,
Because I was scared,
I jumped up and opened the door,
To my utmost dismay,
No one was standing there.
I hurriedly close my door and jumped on my bed,
I was seized by uncontrollable fear,
I dug my face inside the duvet,
I suddenly felt a strong human presence in my room,
I opened my mouth to scream but a force covered my mouth and tried to strangle me,
My light went off again and I heard my window crashing.
I passed out.
When I woke up,
I heard mother sobbing quietly outside the corridor,
“The witch is dead” by Nightingale play gently from the closet,
My room was still dark,
So, I fumbled for the light switch.
Suddenly, I felt cold fingers on my throat sniffing the life out of me,
I tried to shout but my strength failed me.
I passed out again.
In my unconscious state,
I can clearly see mother shedding bloody tears,
Yes, I could see father too,
Holding tightly to his mistress, Diane.
Mother was right after all,
It hurt me so deeply, but I could do nothing.
I would have tear her hair out off her skull.
Even in my oblivious state,
I lay helpless, watching the moon escape far away…
My head continue spinning,
I could feel my body leaving my soul,
Until mother’s piercing scream woke me up again.
Our flatmates were knocking on the door,
They came to welcome us into the neighbourhood,
I struggled to shield my eyes from the early morning sun rays?
Have I been dreaming all this while?
When I peeped through the window,
I saw Diane standing in front of the gate,
I raced downstairs like a wounded lion.
