African Giant: The Both Sides Of A Coin

The concluded Nigeria presidential election caused the biggest uproar in the history of political system in terms of- the three house race, the involvement and popular participation of the youths which seem was restricted to social until they showed how fed up they have been and petered out, to put their energy into what they considered a new Nigeria. There have been popular opinions about the status of Nigeria as the African giant, Professor Lumumba once said, if Nigeria gets it right, and then the whole Africa will queue into the same process, Nigeria is the oasis in which good governance, healthy environment, sustaining democracy and all round development flow into various African countries.

The Nigeria presidential election, held on 25th February was a big day in the country, where hopes were high, a big day where the masses feel the country belonged to them and they can choose whoever occupy the seat- that’s the first side of the coin. With heavy security deployed on course for the preparation of the election, with all assurance from INEC, that the election will be free, fair and credible, there are loopholes and irregularities seemed to have occurred. And the most rudiment aspect of the second side of the coin, where populace feel the results do not reflect the will of the people, which at this time is the supreme law.

The role of African giant is to lead by example, creating avenue where other countries will lead through their own system, Nigeria has lost the status long ago, the country is not free for all, few hands where power reside take dangerous decision that is not in the best interest of the people but rather, to keep their circle closed and starved off millions of Nigerians who could have benefited from the resources of the country, the opportunity for them to be explore in their chosen career field. Hope has hit the rock bottom, it is about where the country can go from here especially when the citizens don’t believe in the process again.
