The long anticipated European Championship was marred and date and preparations were altered due to outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, despite that Euro 2020 is back and ready to kick off on 11th June.
National teams are ready having announced their squads, so many exciting teams to look up for contention and possible upset in the tournament.
The holder, Portugal seem to be in a very good shape. With their star man, Cristiano Ronaldo finishing strong this season despite failing to guide the Old Ladies to their 10th straight Scudetto. With the experience talisman, Diogo Jota, and Felix and Silva, there are going to be a lot of options for the holder to pull up and course another upset as they did in Euro 2016. Ronaldo, definitely going to be in the spotlight with likes of other players.
France seems to have a very good squad and balance in the team. They will be disappointed with Euro 2016, but now they are going to take the defeat as motivation and learn from it. Karim Benzema is a big addition in the squad, to be able to get on the ball, with Kylian Mbappe they are going to be a dangerous side, with lots of attacking strength and great balance in the midfield, Kante the power house.
England posed a threat with lots of talented players emerging so fast. There is no doubt that all eyes will be on Phil Foden, despite the Champions League setback, he is expected to live beyond those moments, these are the moments you don’t prepare but should learn to handle it professionally. Phillips has been very exceptional with Leeds United, his inclusion in the squad is his reward for phenomenal season he has had with Leeds. Exclusion of Jesse Lingard is quite questionable, finishing very strong with fruitful loan at West Ham could have earned him a place in Euro 2020, but the coach chose to eject him, sums up the bunch of talents in England’s squad.
Euro 2020 is no doubt a showcase of talents, every country posed as potential threats and ready to turn up in a most fashionable style.
