Tems Wins Grammy: A Hope For Young Nigerian Girls Aspiring To Be In Music Industry

It is matter of when will Tems win a Grammy not how. Tems has made an unprecedented rise less than half a decade into the music industry, her voice is made for soul piercing chorus, exactly the role that gave her, her first Grammy on her contribution to Future’s song- Wait For U, featured alongside Canadian rapper, Drake, which won the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.

Tems, 27, coming from Nigeria where female music representation is not debated on a high stage like that of their male counterpart, being the first female Nigerian musician to have ever win a Grammy, she is making a big statement not just for herself, but for young Nigerian girls who are hoping to flourish in music industry just like Tems, but their dreams have dealt with a huge blow, she is setting a footprint for young girls, who can see light through her.

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, came into the limelight in 2018 when self-produced her debut single, Mr Rebel, with feedback of fan base who appreciated her uniqueness. She received international recognition on her collaboration with Wizkid, a song off Wizkid’s album, Made in Lagos- Essence. Essence reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a song remixed with Justin Bieber.

The stage is Tems’ to take, it is about where she goes from here, all eyes is going to be on her, in terms of young African girls that are going to idolize her, so much is installed for Tems, as she is walking into a path that is going to propel her growth on a new different level. It is all about making representation, in any way you can positively that’s how you conquer the world, young African girls hoping to inspire in music will be following Tems closely.
