Nigeria’s Problems Of Followership While They Look Into The Future

Many Nigerians will be glad to see the present regime extinguished and forgotten as soon as possible, it has been characterized by many ugly events that the country will want to made away with, but what comes after that will be the major factor to determine the future of the largest democracy in Africa. The political sphere in Nigeria and followership has rock the bottom, a good number of the country’s population are very gullible to understand the true nature of the country and the future it holds for the younger generation.

Nigeria could be better if the issue of followership is radicalized and modelled in a way that will pressure the government to prioritize the affairs and good standard of living in the country. The northern part of the country are living in abject of poverty, kidnapping and banditry has forced many children out school while their parents fear for possible abduction of the school pupils, which has been the order of the day, yet the leaders are yet to clampdown those people, while they are moving freely and perpetrating crimes and causing mayhem, yet the country are quiet with the high level of inhumanity and degradation of humanity that is going in Nigeria, the masses choose to neglect the root cause of the challenges facing Nigeria, while they are chasing shadows. Southern part of the country is coupled with killings and assassinations, with all kinds of civil unrest, until mindset of the followers is constructively forwarded to hold politicians accountable nothing is going to work.

Average citizens are not satisfied with the condition in Nigeria, to talk more about citizens who are living below one dollar every day, the crisis is real, people are gnashing their teeth because the situation keep getting worst, insecurity and corruption rule all day, in a country where one person will steal government fund that will be enough to fix the education sector and create more employments for graduates who are entering labour market. Federal universities have been on strike, while the government has yielded no efforts to get the students back to school, rather they are recycling the same old politicians to keep citizens in the dark while they country to loot the fund meant for public infrastructure.

Elections are approaching fast while several crucial offices in the country is up for grab, in a country that tribalism and ethnic preference is at its peak, the politicians use it as their advantage to milk the country’s resources while ignorant citizens are left with nothing, and it is practical scenario of what is happening in Nigeria. Once you are part of the populace what unite them together is poverty, unemployment, stipend as minimum wage, access to terrible healthcare and education, and those things know no tribe it is like endemic it will be flown into the areas. And what unite Nigeria’s politicians is their undying desire to keep looting the country, and they are strongly united in doing that despite their tribal differences.

Followership contributes to the problems, the youths are not holding those politicians accountable, rather they rally around them and praise them once they are tipped. Nigeria could be better, if the forward thinkers and people with integrity will emerge as public office holders, but there are instrumental institutions that will never allow the populace see the light of the day, people at the helm of affairs sincerely don’t want anything to get better in the country, through hunger they achieved their purpose, because the only way to get the attention of a hungry man, is when you give him something to eat, with that they will be able to have their way through elections to bribe electorates with cups of rice, noodles and snacks at the polling unit.

The strength of Nigeria lies in diversity, people with different affiliations coming together to form a formidable force, but the politicians have seriously undermined that unity in diversity, the country is highly tribalize every sector, appointments leading to splits and some parts of the country seeing breakaway as best possible way to have dream life. The condition is a growing concern and politicians need to be held accountable for that, they travel to meet their counterparts in other countries receive medical attentions yet failed to honour the same development in Nigeria, it is time for followership to be awaken.
