Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani has positively envisaged the prospect of Nigeria’s stronghold to be one of the leading Artificial Intelligence nations this year. The world is fast moving in that direction, as artificial intelligence continues to penetrate across all sectors of walks of life to build and upgrade human lives. The Nigeria’s Minister has acknowledged the gains made in the previous year, as a ground-breaking path to AI solutions this year, as Nigeria ranked among 60 countries globally leading the charge for AI solutions.
He said that “In 2024, the government funded 45 AI startups, trained civil servants, and supported innovative applications in agriculture, healthcare, and education. He further said “We are leveraging AI to drive productivity, enhance governance, and create jobs for our youth. These efforts reflect our commitment to building a future-ready digital economy.” As Nigeria look to move away from mainstream economic reliance which is the oil sector and diverse economic reliance, digital economy is no-brainer. The lustrous path to AI solutions has been spearheaded by drafting Digital Economy Bill followed by data exchange standards interagency collaboration. Mr Tijani has reemphasised that “the Digital Economy Bill will redefine Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, prioritizing transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity,”

The Minister has further expressed that “The backbone of digital connectivity is crucial. This investment ensures every Nigerian can access reliable and high-quality connectivity, regardless of their location.” The Minister has envisaged this year to make enormous impact “by 2025, we aim to make Nigeria a prime destination for outsourcing and technology-driven services,” he continued “Our scaling efforts, alongside global partnerships, will ensure Nigerians are equipped for the evolving digital landscape.” Until these changes impacts in the lives of common Nigerians they will continue to be another smokescreen, however, it is massive development to be optimistic about.
