It was a black Sunday in the south-west of the country, Ondo State, where attack was carried out on Catholic congregation nearly the end of holy mass, which has seen reported number of fifty lives lost in Owo. Attacks have been widespread in the country and nothing to improve by the security personnel to protect lives and property, what the government will be quick to condemn such attacks sit back and blame it on foreign mercenary, then what happened to the border? Which way did they use to enter inside the country? All the nook and cranny of the country is bleeding, and Africa’s largest democracy need to start somewhere, citizens, predominantly youths, are now ardent advocate of PVC [ Permanent Voters Card] in a bid to do away with political apathy nurtured which has completely ravaged the country and give room for increased political malpractices.
Attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State is no short of the terrible state of the country, it is inhumanity, it is against everything good, it is defying the sacrosanctity of sacred place. A community that was tagged peaceful and has become part of the inhabitants’ lives was wrecked by armed gunmen who stormed the church before noon on Sunday and killed people to their satisfaction an attack that lasted for about 30mins. Nigerian leaders have failed its citizens, in a well-meaning country they are bound to resign and bury their heads in shame, but in Nigeria they only “mourn with the bereaved” visit the crime scene and sit back watch the country set ablaze, it is a big call for the country, it is heading towards a despair and only rescue mission can save the remnants.

While Nigerians are mourning the president, Muhammadu Buhari is more concerned on who succeeds him, elected on promises to end insecurity, over his coming to an end tenure, security challenges have worsened killings are headlines of his administration, not even a single person has been brought to book as promised by Mr Buhari. Amotekun, a security outfit was formed to curb and prevent killings in south-west unfortunately they were unable to foresee the Owo church attack, the hallmark of Nigeria existentiality is the big smile on politicians’ faces and the tears on bereaved in Owo.
It is indeed a sad experience, while the country is on fire those at the helm of affairs in the nation are busy with selecting those that will take the mantle of bad leadership from them and the youths should also bear in mind while voting that our future goes beyond our tribes and ethnics.
It is time for social and political revival in going forward and providing enabling environment for younger generation.
