Naomi Osaka: The Champion Who Inspired In The Fight Against Racism

The reigning champion, Naomi Osaka having triumphed in the finals against Victoria in the intense US open. She claimed her third Grand Slam last weekend after returning of sports prior to drastic change to stop activities because of the coronavirus pandemic which pushed everyone is inside.

Now the world is returning slowly, and sport is back, bigger and better than ever. Rough times breed champions, Osaka has expressed how the lockdown helped her a lot in her recent achievement, to think about a lot of things she would like to be remembered for, the kind of legacy she is going to leave behind.

She has been a strong advocate against racial Injustices and police brutality which seem to be targeted to African-American having aggravated recently in United States, the killings and racial remarks. She is determined to change society for better.

Naomi Osaka who has black background, has used her every single match to show solidarity to blacks who have been killed by police by wearing masks bearing the names of the victims, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Trayvon Martin and Tamir Rice.

Police suspected that Breonna Taylor’s apartment which is situated in Louisville, the city’s South End was being used to receive drugs by a gang which her ex-boyfriend is one of the suspects. Police breaking her door with hulabaloo police gunfire which leave Ms Taylor, unarmed emergency medical technician terribly shot.

The call to arrest the cop who shot Ms Taylor with global protest inspired by noviety Black Lives Matter movement. This is Naomi Osaka’s chance to display support for the bereaved most importantly to inspire change in the society which has completed got rotten.

Elijah McClain a 23-year-old black man who died in police custody in Aurora on 24 August 2019. Unarmed black who was stopped by white police officers, there were altercations as police tried to search him for a weapon, although district attorney later claimed that they had emergency call about a suspicious person matching his narration. He was heard saying “I’m an introvert, please respect my boundaries that I’m speaking.” At this point they pulled him down, he was battling and the police officers for help with firefighters and an ambulance responding. Shortly he was injected with 500mg of the drug ketamine to calm him, the medic noticed he don’t have a pulse, he was declared brain dead on 27 August. His family alleged that the officers used excessive force on him and reportedly claim that he was saying he can’t breathe. This happened to be another mask for the soon-to-be champion.

Ahmaud Arbery was jogging in Brunswick, Georgia, on 23 February when he was shot dead by two white men – a father and son. The culprits, Gregory McMichael, 64, and Travis, 34, were seen chasing after Arbery in a pick up truck with a pistol. The 36-seconds video which appeared to show Mr Arbery running as McMichaels wait ahead for him in their vehicle, which was shot by another man, William Bryan. The man who shot the video and younger McMichaels were indicted by Glynn County’s Grand jury on charges including malice and felony murder. Arbery Sr in a warm message showed immense gratification for the young champion Naomi Osaka for her supports.

The eight minutes video that changed the world. George Floyd, 46, was stopped by police on 25 May in Minneapolis. Police officers were looking into the possible purchase of cigarettes with counterfeit money. Which he was pinned to the ground and helplessly knelt on while he was saying “I can’t breathe”. Later he was pronounced dead in the hospital. It was marked with wide rage of protests globally, which will go down as one of the greatest demonstrations in fight against racial Injustices and police brutality. Another mask for the Japan seed.

The teenager who has been killed by Mr Zimmerman who began to fear for his life, after he sense sinister motives by the lad. The law in US allows him to shoot in self-defense although the family insisted that it was a murder, police failure to arrest Mr Zimmerman sparked mass rallies I’m Florida and extending to whole US. Another name to write on Naomi’s mask, his family send their gratitude to Naomi Osaka.

During the lockdown, the champion has clearly thought on how to make a difference and this is a powerful message coming from black woman who felt the need for change and a win in fight against racism and police brutality.

Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old who was shot within seconds of police arrival in Cleveland, after the police believed he had a gun in his position, and turned out to be fake. Another mask for Japan seed, who keeps igniting the fire in fight against racism.
