Mmeso Inspires: Web Of Passion

I wouldn’t deny the fact that Alabi is the man after my heart.

Just like a fly caught in a web, he is after my life too.

Nne had warned me about the late nights…

Nna had reported me to “Ukochukwu” the village’s albino preacher.

But just like the heedless fly, I was determined to follow the corpse to the grave.

Azuka warned me.

I wouldn’t deny the fact that I had followed Alabi into his inner room.

And countless times, we had eaten the forbidden fruit.

Uncertain of how it tasted though…

But I am sure a web I have entered

And a sin I had committed

Am I a prisoner for life?

I wouldn’t deny the fact that a loose girl I had become…

Caught in the web of passion, a black magic.

Alabi treated me like a slut, sure I am.

Ripped of my innocence at ten.

Heart hardened, soul divided to many a ten.

“The preacher’s voice keep ringing in my ears…

“But away I have slowly become a prodigal

With no hope of returning to the father.

Am I a prisoner for life?

I wouldn’t deny the fact that Alabi is after my soul, just like he is after my life.

Surreptitiously, he keep coming even after the first day…

Until I slowly lost count of how many murder I had committed.

Watching crumps of blood fell out to the mother earth…

Innocent babies being sent to a journey of no return.

Crying into my ears from Limbo

Alabi must have heard the cries too.

Because we are prisoner for life.

I wouldn’t deny the fact that I can clearly see the handwriting on the wall.

My days are numbered just like the fingers of my hand.

Alabi is the man after my heart but he is the man after my life.

Caught in the web of passion, we built it all wrong.

Because two wrongs cannot make a right.

Alabi did not keep to his promise…

He broke my heart, but what is there to break?

He travelled without a word, leaving me to sew crumbs which appears a liquid?

An irreparable loss.

I had lost everything.

I wouldn’t deny the fact that Azuka my best friend had warned me.

Nne had warned me.

Nna had warned me.

Ukochukwu had warned me.

My long necked English teacher had warned me.

Everybody had warned me but just like the heedless fly I was determined to follow the corpse to the grave.

Am I a prisoner for life?

I wouldn’t deny the fact that Alabi is the man after my heart just like he is the man after my life.

Because this mess we must clean together…

Whether he is in East, West, North or South.

He must return…

Because we are prisoners for life.

When I heard the church bell rings…

I thought my days are over but it was just a sign, that I still have an opportunity to amend my ways.

I cried…

I was wrong, I was caught in the web of passion.

But a new day offers a new opportunity to make amends.

I was not a prisoner after all.

Pal, better keep your self clean and bright.

You are the light through which you must see the world.
