Mmeso Inspires: The Wedding Night

I was excited,

Because, It was my wedding day,

Just like any normal day, the weather was friendly,

And the atmosphere was distinctive,

It was giving that vibes,

I hope you know what I mean,

Don’t ask me what!

I was curious to know how it feels by being married,

I’m anxious as well because my husband has been acting strange lately,

Nevertheless,

I decide to ignore it all and focus on my day,

Besides, It’s been hectic preparing for our wedding.

I was secretly anticipating my wedding night too,

I have heard so much from my friend Nkoli,

And I can’t wait to witness it all,

Even as the wedding bell kept jingling,

My mind was wandering from here to there,

Until I noticed my husband’s presence,

I smiled.

Few hours later, we exchanged vows,

It was the best experience of my life,

Standing very close to my husband,

So that I could feel his breath,

The love that emit from his dreamy eyes was pure,

Just like the fear that emit from them was glaring too,

I wonder what the problem was,

Though I could feel an impending danger,

I couldn’t place it.

After the reception,

It was already late in the night.

I was feeling very tired,

Our driver was already waiting to drive us home.

When we arrived,

My husband house boy Theodore,

Began unpacking our things while my husband and I walked into the house hand in hand.

My husband was unusually cold and barely speak to me,

He was quietly stealing glances at me as I get ready to freshen up,

I was suddenly feeling very uncomfortable and quietly move to the bathroom to take my bath,

When I was midway, I started hearing strange voices in the room.

I felt goose pimples all over my body and quickly hurried my bath.

I rushed back to the room to see my husband playing with a strange woman,

I screamed,

First, I wonder how and when the woman entered  into our matrimonial room,

I ran out of the room with great fear while the laughter of the strange woman reverberates the house.

When I rushed outside,

To my greatest surprise,

Theodore, the house boy, was nowhere to be found,

I struggled to open the gate and ran out of the compound,

Tears drop down my cheeks as I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.

At a point, I noticed that I was half-naked,

I wonder what people will say if they see me in such condition,

Yesterday a bride,

Today a mad woman,

As I thought of what next to do,

A car zoomed past me but reversed back immediately.

I guess the driver recognized me.

My husband alighted and I froze.

“Olachi! Where have you been?

I have been searching for you everywhere!”, he shouted.

I did not speak a word but turned and ran into a bush.

I can clearly hear some steps behind.

So, I ran further into the bush like a blind bat.
