Mmeso Inspires: The Surprise

I looked at the diamond case before me and then at him,

I knew it must have cost a lot.

My eyes settle at his,

Beautiful deep brown eyes filled with deceit,

Today, he appears so innocent,

All loving and kind,

The next day he will definitely charge at me like a mad bull,

For checking the time with his phone,

That has always been the ritual.

I moved to his nose,

Well structured and pointed,

The type every women craves for,

But I never liked it,

Probably because he was too conceited.

Related stories:

Gradually my eyes moved to his lips,

Well shaped,

I wonder how many ladies he had kissed with it,

Countless times, I had discovered lipstick patches on his cloth,

When confronted, he said that I was overreacting,

I gave up.

My eyes rove about his body,

I bit my lips in pain,

I knew he was not ready for commitment,

The ring was just a chain,

I knew this was not the kind of man I want to spend the rest of my life with,

I regretted the day I met him.

He met me in my most vulnerable state,

After my Aunt threw me out of the house,

My parents were late,

I had no where to go.

He met me roaming the street and offered me a room in his apartment,

He promised not to hurt me.

A big lie you know…

He deflowered me,

An eye for an eye.

After that incident,

It became a ritual,

I felt a part of me belongs to him,

Because,

Why can’t I just walk away?

He promised to stand by me,

Funny, you know…

Cheating behind my back,

Even with my close friends,

Keeping late nights and taking hard drugs are behaviour I cannot keep up with,

Sophie was his dream woman,

He had been spending our earnings on her,

Until a month ago,

She left him for Chief Obaego.

He was not a match for Chief who gifted Sophie a mansion for a “yes”,

Because I was an option, he settled for me.

Before now, I had chosen to treat him like one too.

“Babe! Babe!! you are not saying anything? He asked,

Calling me out of oblivion.

“I just asked you to marry me, an opportunity you have been waiting for”, he said.

The tone of his voice set my heart ablaze and I heaved in annoyance,

I looked at him straight into the eyes,

“No. I won’t marry you, John”.

I took my bag and quietly walk out of the restaurant.
