Adanne shifted uneasily on her seat. Her husband tried whispering in her ears but she pushed his face away.
Oma entered with her husband. Heads turned towards their direction.
Adanne bit her lips in bitterness.
“Darling are you okay? Uwakwe asked as he tried holding her but she forcefully removed his hand.
She uttered no word but frowned her face.
And that was how Adanne has been living in bitterness for the past four years of her marriage to Uwakwe because she think he is the ugliest man on earth.
She envied some of her friends who got married to their dream man, Oma inclusive.
Uwakwe had tried his best to make his wife happy. He bought her gifts at random, threw surprise birthday parties and even gifted her a car after the birth of their only child, Ekene but all to no avail.
Adanne stopped her husband from touching her after the birth of her son. According to her, the pain that comes with child birth was excruciating. However, in actual sense, she had a smooth pregnancy journey as well as delivery but her decision was borne out of hatred for the innocent man. Uwakwe bore all her unbearable actions. He has been tolerating her, believing that she will change for good some day.
Few days later, Uwakwe returned home and bought an expensive bag for her. It was a new bag which just arrived town and having the bag will be a big flex yet she rejected it.

“Darling you should be grateful”, Uwakwe chided.
“Grateful my foot. Take the bag to the gutters! she shouted.
“Why did you hate me so much? I have loved you and cared for you”, Uwakwe said
“You want to know why? she asked holding her waist.
“Because you are the ugliest man I have seen in my life. Have you seen your self in the mirror before? Big eyeballs, flat nose, big mouth, flappy ears, big head. I have asked you to go for a surgery but you refused just to frustrate me you fool!. You disgusts me! I hate you!! she shouted as her voice reverberated in the house.
Little Ekene began to cry. Her husband dropped the bag on the bed and quietly went to the sitting room to carry his son. He was playing with his toys when he heard the loud voice of his mother. He was scared and that amounted to the outburst.
The next morning when Adanne woke up to prepare her son for school, to her utmost dismay she neither found her husband or her son. She wanted to scream for help but she stopped when she noticed that their bags was missing too.
Just then her phone rang. It was her friend Oma.
“Hello…Ada she called amidst sobs. Can I come to your place. My husband beat me up and asked me to leave his house because I prepare fried rice for him for breakfast which is his favourite instead of pounded yam and vegetable soup. I have been enduring in this marriage for the past five years. I admire your marriage, Ada. How I wish everyday to be like you… Adanne was shocked. She felt numb.
“Please I’m on my way already… Oma finally said as Adanne quickly end the call.
She tried calling her husband but his phone was switched off. Her heart summersaulted.
Just then her phone ring again. she picked it up. It was her bosom friend Ijeoma calling.
“Adanne! why is my case different? she asked sobbing bitterly over the phone.
“IJ what happened? Adanne asked surprised.
“I lost my baby “, she said gritting her teeth in pain.
“This is the third pregnancy I am losing because I got married to a monster. Chike beat me to stupor because I confronted him over his bringing different women into our matrimonial room. I am calling you Nneee…because I will stab the ugly thin and kill my self. I want you to take care of my only daughter, Nonye.
“No! No!”, Adanne shouted but her friend has already ended the call.
Adanne dialed her husband again but it was still switched off.
She passed out.
