“No tears here! Davison cautioned untying her hands.

“Little Anabelle sobbed quietly. The thought of her parents and her baby brother at home made her weep even harder. They took her to the same room they kept other kids.

The presence of other kids gave her comfort but she was stricken with the presence of a  girl huddled in a corner.

Other kids were seated in twos and threes engaged in conversation and prayers  but this particular girl was alone.

Anabelle felt pity for her and quietly walked up to her to avoid the attention of their abductor.

“Hello. Can I be your friend? she asked.

The girl neither answered or raised her head.

Anabelle tapped her.

“Why are you quiet? I want to be your friend.” Anabelle said again.

“No! she snapped rudely, raising her head.

“I want no friends! she said sobbing.

Her face was pale and weak from crying.

“I want to go home, I want to go back to Wales she said.

Anabelle was shocked. Her pale face remind her of the “Girl in the wood” story book which always give her nightmares.

The room became quiet when their abductor entered.

They took three of the kids away while the other ones sobbed bitterly especially from the pair where they had picked them from.

“They are taking them to the pits”, she said.

Anabelle realized she was talking to her.

“Where is that? she asked, scared.

The girl remained taciturn.

“We can be friends. My name is Edna”, she said dryly.

Few minutes later. The young men entered the room again.

The kids held one another tightly, weeping. They surveyed the room before picking Anabelle and her new friend, Edna.

They dragged them outside. Anabelle was sobbing but Edna seemed happy.

“Do you know where they are taking us to? she asked.

“To the pits! Edna snapped.

“Where is that? Anabelle asked confused.

“Over there… she said pointing at a dark heap in front of them.

It was very dark and cold outside and Anabelle shivered. Just like her mother taught her, she began to pray.

The men were dragging them in order to keep up  with pace.

Just like a flash. Edna stopped. Her long hair covering her face while her body trembled.

The men were annoyed. They tried dragging her but she charged like a bull and jump on one of them. She bit him to death.

Anabelle screamed and covered her face with her hands.

Davison took to his heels. Edna turned to Anabelle.

“Let us go there, friend”, she said smiling and  pointing at the dark heap in front of them.

“No! you are evil”, Anabelle said shivering.

“I will kill you… she whispered.

In a flash, some of the kids came running towards them.

Anabelle took to her heels. It was dark so she could not see where she was running to.

She could hear footsteps at her back. She run as fast as her legs could carry her but it seemed she was running farther into the woods.

Probably… she is the mysterious girl in the wood. Her nightmares. She remember what her mother told her. “Little Anabelle. Always pray whenever you are in trouble”.

So she began to pray again and even run harder.

Then she heard someone falling off a cliff.

She stopped and turned back.

Edna was at her back, advancing towards her in menacing steps.

She decided to face her fear with words of prayer on her lips.
