Mmeso Inspires: The Flirt

Sugar coated tongue, but deadly like a viper…

Face look so tender and innocent, but heart is gall.

And just before I knew it, he found his way into my heart.

Hissing like a snake as he made his way fast inside.

Housed in between my delicate soul…

He begin to break.

How shall I tell my story?

That Ojadili is a woman beater.

He has turned me into a punching bag at the mercy of no one.

He is a lover to Asiri, the popular woman with the large waist and tiny head.

He is a lover to the black tooth girl, who sells sweet orange at Idundun market.

Ojadili is a lover to Odum’s widow, whose spirit is rumored to always roam the village at the dead of the night.

Yes, he is a lover to the same woman who fell into the latrine pit last eke market day.

Where shall I start?

How can I face father?

Because of Ojadili I pushed him out of my way.

His eyes was filled with tears but I was so in love  that I hardly care.

Because of Ojadili, I called Mother a “Black witch”.

I left the house and elope with a stranger…

I am a prodigal.

I remember now, the suitors I had rejected because of the same man that ruined my life.

Ikenna, the successful farmer I called a “Pig”

Ekene, the young rich welder, who always bring to the house fat parcels, I poured hot water and called a “Bad fortune”

Seething with anger, Father had muttered a curse.

Ikenna is happily married to Uloma, the hunchbacked girl who in no way can be compared to me, in terms of beauty.

What shall I do?

I lost the game after all…

I agree now, that a good game is easy to play but hard to master.

I wake up one morning and noticed that Ojadili was not in the house.

I wept bitterly.

He had told me the night before that I was a fool after all, for running after him.

He told me that he chase after girls for a living…

What madness?

I found out two weeks later, that he had eloped with Adaure, the daughter of the notorious bar woman.

Regret and sorrow had eaten deep into my marrow…

I did not only Insult and fought my beloved parents who had sacrificed a lot for me.

I did not only disgrace myself…

I did not only reject promising and responsible suitors…

But I have something growing in my tummy.

I am carrying Ojadili’s child.
