Mmeso Inspires: Night

Just like a cloud above the sky…

Darkness had descended on me unexpectedly.

I feel betrayed, grief has torn my heart apart.

Treasure cherished for years… had kissed the dust.

And passion kindled for years had been blown off

Leaving me to grope in darkness like a blind man seeking for his stick.

This is night, all night… because I can’t see through my tears.

What a grief to be betrayed by that special one called love.

And what a grief that passion built for years amidst trials and triumph had been exchanged for money. Yes money.

How will I tell my story?

Will the world not laugh at me, that a lover turned betrayal on the face of adversity.

I will tell you what happened…

I met Romeo, eight years ago.

My dream man, my one in a million.

Yes, he is my everything and my rare gem.

And I mean the world to him too.

I never knew, love was so real.

So perfect, so sweet.

Now, this love turned anguish and I struggle to be strong.

When we finished the university, I and Romeo.

We departed in search of greener pastures but our love waxed stronger day by day.

Romeo was faithful as ever and I thought this was eternal.

My tragedy started when I met Chief.

Yes, Chief was a good man and he helped me to secure a job without demanding anything in return.

Romeo knew about it and he was very happy for me.

Little did I know that Chief had an ulterior motive.

Few months later, Chief declared his intentions to me. He

said he loves me and want me to marry him.

I refused, yes I refused because I love Romeo and he loves me too. I can’t just forsake our eight years of relationship because Chief was a good man and wants to marry me.

Besides, Romeo is doing well and we are already making plans of settling down. A lifetime dream.

Chief was persistent, he won’t let me go.

I told Chief about my relationship with Romeo, I humbly explained to him reasons why I can’t marry him.

I wanted to be honest with Chief because he had been good and supportive all these while.

I will tell you what happened…

I will tell you how darkness descended on me in midday.

Chief contacted Romeo few weeks later and told him he is interested in me. He offered Romeo a huge amount of money and properties to let me go.

I was optimistic, I was proud of the man my Romeo turned out to be all these years.

But Romeo broke my heart.

Romeo betrayed me.

Romeo accepted Chief’s offer and cut me out of his life.

He did not tell me about it, he travelled out of the country, I was not aware until his friend told me about it.

This is the man I gave my body, my soul and my trust.

This is the man I dated for eight years.

This is the same man I bragged about, now he had dragged me to the mud.

He has painted my face with shame.

Romeo found me worth exchanging for money.

Eight years is not just eight days. I am lost in the night.

Someone should tell me what to do because this darkness want to consume me.

Even though I am not giving in to Chief either, how will I tell this story?

He who has a lamp should see me out…

He who hold a candle should let me see…

Because here I am, all alone, lost and groping in the darkness.

This is all night.
