A little girl I was, full of smiles and happiness.
I always sing to the stars at dusk and watch them slowly creep into the sky.
“Mary has a little lamb” was my favorite lyric.
Until I learnt a new one, that talks about the little pussy cat travelling to London.
That, I always sing with all my strength wondering even at my young age what it will take to achieve such a feat.
That thought registered in my mind and in my heart it dwelled like a fountain.
Yes, I got all I asked for from my parents and the world seems a paradise…
Until tragedy struck on a fateful day…
Leaving me not only homeless but hopeless.
Leaving me not only an orphan but an offer to the highest bidder.
A lady offered to take me in and cater for my education.

Too good to be true and for the first time after the death of my parents, my face beam with smiles.
Life with Aunty Sandra was not easy at all because I was turned into a slave.
I served her and her children yet I still got beatings, insult and mockery.
My education was never mentioned and any day I dared mentioning it was always a hell so I dreaded my dream.
Aunty Sandra also turned me into a hawker…
I hawk in the morning and in the evening and as soon as I returns, I still make supper for the family.
But one thing, I must tell you…
Even though I was deprived from going to school and even reading old books from the children’s shelf…
My dream was still burning in me like an inferno.
Yes, I dreaded it because of Aunty Sandra’s beating but I never deaden it and so it lives…
And just a day, decide my life for the best, though it seems as if it was the end of it all.
I was hit down by a car on a fateful day, I was hawking as usual when the incident happened.
Luckily for me, the person who hit me was a Good Samaritan.
She took care of me while in the hospital as she desperately try to contact my relatives.
Aunty Sandra denied knowing me at all, I was not surprised.
I was a “nobody”.
The Good Samaritan played a huge role in my life.
She took me in as her daughter and trained me till my University education.
Some years afterwards, I won an award as the most Inspiring young female Lawyer in my country.
Yes, the award was presented to me on a global stage. This was my story, the story of a young girl who though was deprived of her identity at an early stage of life but was still able to find light in the darkness of the tunnel.
I hope my story Inspire the younger generation.
I hope my story Inspire young girls across the globe to search and find their identity. This was so good to be true.
As I stepped out to collect the prize amidst applaud from the mighty crowd…
Tears filled my eyes as the dream of twenty years ago flashed my mind.
“I shall travel to London” I was glad, very glad that even though at a point in my life…
I dreaded my dream, but I never deaden it.
“Fight for your dreams, so that your dreams will fight for you” – that maxim means a lot to me.
