Mmeso Inspires: Game of Lovers

As I was returning from Soweto,

A place where I had gone to fight my husband,

Sebastian Kofi has been a pin to my butt,

Three years of marriage but it seemed a  millennium,

Looking into the tiny face of Dada reminds me so much of him,

That I had suppressed the irresistible urge to cast him into the shore.

I pray no one discover my crime,

because I am too young to train a son

And too pretty to be cast behind bars,

Kofi must not know.

Yes, let me continue…

“As I was returning from Soweto,

A peaceful hamlet where I had gone to fight my husband,

I met two lovers,

Playing happily in the garden of Magic, where true love runs like Mississippi

I stood and watch,

The young man was whispering into his lover’s ear,

Just like Sebastian, until our first fight,

After which he bit my ears with such frenzy that I feared I would lose them that night.

Related stories:

I watch them happily play around the garden until Dada begin to whimper.

I knew It’s time to leave.

As I was returning from Soweto,

A place where I had gone to fight my husband, Sebastian…

Seated beside me, were two young lovers.

Playing the game of  “Lelefe”

A typical game of love where a lover whisper to the ear of the other, while the other laugh out loud while whispering back.

Beautiful smiles light up their faces like the rays of morning sun,

They never bother if there is a third person watching, because they are hypnotized in the spirit of love.

A game played by two persons who have met love face to face…

Said,  Ma Ese the oldest woman in my neighborhood.

They continued,  laughing sheepishly as they do so until Dada started whispering into mine too.

I knew It’s time to  alight.

When I entered into the compound, where I had lived with my husband before his departure to Soweto.

A public compound with dirty walls and cracky wooden doors,

I met Celestine Iroh playing the game of  “Achela”, with his estranged wife.

A typical game in my village, where a lover pursue the other around the compound while the two laugh boisterously.

I was shocked.

When the couple run towards me in playful frenzy, I quickly walk out of the compound.

I walk hastily to the road where I can catch a bus.

Right there, I can clearly hear the laughter of Celestine Iroh and his estranged wife.

I wonder how they reconnected after these years.

I waited patiently for a bus to arrive, but it was taking time.

So, I began to hum…

“Take me to Soweto Danfo, take me there…

Take me to meet my husband, Sabestin Kofi.

Take me to Seweto, Danfo, what’s taking your time?

I want to meet the absolute love of my life..”

Not so long, a bus stopped.

It was Sabestin Kofi, my husband.

Dada begin to hum, the same way I did it few minutes ago.
