I knew that something was beginning to grow in my heart when I started looking forward to seeing him,

Benson… the young man in my heart,

Million times I have seen him in my dreams,

I watched him stealthily as he passed along the road,

I thought about him everyday,

I knew I was running mad but I am grateful,

Because mine was not as severe as Glory’s…

I knew there was a space in my heart for his love when I waited patiently for him to pass every morning…

Until it becomes a daily routine,

That even the door reminds me of him,

The light in my room,

And the awkward movement of my neighbour, Jude who has a sore feet,

And would drag it to the tap each morning for whatever…

Now and then I will rush to the window,

Without looking at the clock,

To see the dude that makes my heart beat,

because I am really going crazy.

I knew  something was wrong with me when I started fumbling at my workplace,

Bumping into the smallest things,

And staring foolishly at my computer,

Thrice I had typed his name on my letter head,

And was called into the boardroom for a three-hour scolding,

The next day I addressed my boss as “Benson”.

On a fateful day,

I saw a group of people dragging him down the street,

His face swollen as a result of the beating,

I burst into tears and rushed downstairs,

Because I can’t bear to see the pain and the torture,

I was surprised,

Not because I was told he was caught stealing from the neighbourhood,

Nor because he was not as  good looking as I thought him to be,

But because my 14 karate gold that I had been searching all over my place was sitting pretty on his wrist,

When our eyes met, he gave me a cold stare.

Fear seized me as I began to wonder how he got access,

I screamed at the thought of him looking at me sleeping  peacefully while he rummaged my closet.

His name was no Benson.
