Mmeso Inspires: Broken Again

“How much for a night”? he asked with bemused expression.

I slowly turned to look at him, surprised at my own flexibility. He was surprised too.

“I will pay you well”, he said, looking at me. Hungry eyes of a devil.

I remained taciturn but my tired eyes were betraying me. I needed help anyways. Time was not on my side.

“Probably it is your first time that’s why it is difficult for you to name a price. Don’t worry pretty young lady I will treat you well. Both in cash and kind”, he said and burst into laughter. His laughter reminded me of the mirthless laughter of Odion in the movie “The heartless” which traumatized me as a kid. I would swear that Odion was more pathetic.

He continued while his hungry eyes rove my trembling body.

“You know… I have handled people of your caliber and I can attest that they all got what they wanted. Why would a beautiful damsel like you suffer this way while you have an asset? Come on wise up! the future belongs to the fast”, he said smiling and smacking his lips.

I swallowed hard and bit my lips in pain. If not that I needed money desperately to offset my bills. What will I be doing in the first place with this devil?

Then I realized he was asking me a question.

“I said… he repeated clearing his throat.

“I was asking whether you will prefer the back of the bar or the uncompleted building outside”, he said placing his hand on my lap.

“What? I gasped. Trying to understand his question.

“Yes! he said, smiling.

He removed his big hand from my lap and try to touch my bosom. I tried in vain to control my anger as I landed him two heavy slaps on the cheek in quick succession. Probably I remembered who I was now.

Heads quickly turned to our direction and I bolted away. He was too stunned to speak. As I ran back to my hostel, hot tears flowed down my cheeks. I might probably stayed an extra year in school if I failed to pay my fees before the week elapsed. But will I let that happen? The saviour will never fail me.
