Mmeso Inspires: Better, for worse

In a matter of minutes, the rowdy hall became quiet…

The MC was no longer on the podium trying in vain to crack funny jokes,

The overzealous woman with bright coloured lips was no longer shouting on top of her voice,

Probably she was trying to impress the bride’s mother but everyone could see that the latter was annoyed by her loud voice,

The lovers fumbling at the dark corner of the hall were gone,

I shook my head,

If only the lady noticed that the young man in question has done the same with five other ladies when she had excused herself to speak with an acquaintance,

If only she knew…

The triple-sized man eyeing me from the VIP left before the couple exchanged vows,

I knew he has a runny stomach,

It was obvious,

He kept running to the convenience every now and then,

I was embarrassed on his behalf.

How things seemed to change in a couple of minutes,

Here was the bride twerking her waist while the groom twerk alongside,

To the disdain of an elderly woman seated beside me cursing under her breath,

But loudly cheered them when served with a plate of chicken stew,

The power of food,

I shrugged.

All had left to their respective homes,

For the new married couple,

It’s a new chapter for them,

A new life even.

The caterers were packing to go too,

Few hours ago they were feeling on top of the world,

Serving food first to their preferred guests,

The fair lady among them moving like a peacock,

Probably she felt the world revolves around her,

I was glad when the bride’s mother scolded her.

Probably no one knew I had caught the bride weeping in the convenience,

No one knew…

I want to believe it was tears of joy.

Truly, behind all the noise,

Is a life that the new couple will face afterwards,

Many believe it is like two side of coin,

Yet no one can foretell.

Maybe one day we will come to accept the “For better, for worse” in it’s entirety,

But for now, I will continue to believe it will be “For better, for better”.
