“Collins, Mr. White called to inform me that you cancelled the meeting that was scheduled to hold tomorrow afternoon. The sweet voice of Mrs. Beauty Maduka was heard over the phone, speaking with her only son.
“Yes Mom”, Collins blurted.
“Are you okay? Why are you sounding like that? Beauty asked.
“Mom, I’m fine. I need some space”.
“What’s the problem, Collins?
“Honestly, I don’t understand why everybody keep asking me annoying questions lately. I’m fine Mom. I am an adult, I take decisions which is best for me, for us.”
“That’s fine Mr. Adult. I won’t bother you again. Are you coming to spend the weekend with us? Your kid sister is returning for summer break and she need to see you. And I will be hosting your late dad’s friend Mr. Ayo and her beautiful daughter Shantel. One of the best brains in Accounting field.
“I will work on my schedule Mom, but if I must come over the house. It’s for Princess”, Collins said with a note of finality.
“Must you sound rude to your mother Collins, what’s wrong with you?
“Mom, can you please stop. I’m off, he said and hung up.

“Are you sure she has not been kidnapped? Akunne asked her accomplice while sobbing.
“God forbid!, Ekene said snapping her fingers. She concealed the fact that she too has begin to develop cold feet.
Ijeoma was sitting in front of Ken’s gate sobbing bitterly when the two sighted her. Ekene quickly rushed to her.
“Ijeoma, why are you outside? Did you quarreled with Ken? What happened? Ekene asked, surprised on seeing her friend in that condition.
Akunne drew closer.
“Ijeoma, is this how you want me to live long?, Akunne queried as she burst into tears.
Ijeoma did not say anything to them but kept sobbing.
“Ijeoma speak up, why are you keeping quiet and making us scared. Did Ken hit you? Ekene asked.
“First, it was Ikenne. Then Izunna, and now Ken”, Ijeoma said sobbing bitterly.
“What happened?, Ekene asked fearing her next response.
“Ijeoma so you choose to stay outside by this time of the night, what if something bad happened to you”, Akunne said sobbing.
Ijeoma did not speak a word again, she quietly stood up and started walking towards the direction that led to her house leaving both her mother and her friend stupefied.
The beautiful family of the Madukas’ were all seated in the dinning room eating. It was just the three of them, Beauty the beautiful wife of late Gilbert Maduka, Collins, his son and Princess, his adopted daughter. They were all enjoying the delicious dinner when beauty spoke up.
“Collins, I heard your friend is walking down the aisle in two weeks time”, she said smiling while sipping a glass of juice.
“Yes, in a week time actually”, he said.
“Beautiful, few months ago was your cousin’s and now your friend. When is yours coming up? Beauty asked.
“Mom, don’t you think it’s too early for this discussion. When the time is right,”, he answered.
“Collins, when will the time be right. You have beautiful, educated ladies around you. You can choose among Shantel, Genevieve, Prisca and Nelly, they are… She was interrupted.
“Mom, Can you just allow me eat in peace, please!, Collins snapped.
Princess stole a look at her brother and said.
“Mom, I think Shantel is pretending, I saw her the other day…”, but Beauty couldn’t allow her speak.
“Shut up your mouth, and eat your food. Do you want to get choked up again”, she said.
Just then a middle aged woman walked into the dinning room with some cleaning equipments. The family laundry woman.
“Anuri, what were you saying the other day? Beauty asked.
“Madam, I was asking for permission to go and visit my sick mother in the village.
“Granted, but who will be doing the laundry when you are away? Beauty asked chewing a large chunk of chicken.
“I have spoken with somebody and she will be coming over next week, Anuri replied praying that her request be totally granted.
“Somebody? Beauty asked.
“Anuri, make sure you’re not bringing a thief into my house”.
“Yes Madam”.
“How long will you be away? Beauty asked.
“One week, Madam”.
“One week is too long! Five days is okay.
“Please Madam, Anuri pleaded but Beauty was not moved.
“Mom, please allow her”, Collins replied, standing up and wiping his mouth with the serviette.
Anuri smiled. She knew her request has been granted.

“How was the project, you haven’t told me anything about it”, Kelvin said.
He was sitting in his penthouse discussing with his friend Collins as they both sip a glass of wine.
“Man, you were preparing for your wedding”, Collins said laughing.
“And after your wedding, you quickly travelled to Dubai for your honeymoon”.
“Man, I am here now. Tell me how it go”, Kelvin said laughing too.
“It was a huge success Man, My team was just wonderful”, Collins said smiling.
“I’m glad to hear that Collins, I know how important the project mean to you”.
“Yes, I am grateful to the saviour Kelvin “, Collins said smiling.
“Kelvin, marriage is really looking good on you. Few weeks of marriage and you have added weight, I wonder how big you will become when celebrating your one year anniversary”.
“Man, marriage is sweet. You better go and marry and make Mama happy “, Kelvin said, laughing.
“You won’t understand Kelvin, I’m just taking my time.”
“That’s fine Man, I think Shantel will make a good wife”, Kelvin said.
“Maybe, but I never liked her”, Collins said.
“That’s just the problem with you Collins, you never liked anybody. If not that you’re my friend, I would begin to suspect you.
“Come on Man, you know I was telling you the other day, I met a particular lady in that same village”.
“Yes, I remember”, Kelvin quickly answered.
“She has been on my mind ever since I met her, I felt bad that she wouldn’t allow me have a proper conversation with her”.
“This is serious Man, are you implying that you’re in love with her or you…”
“Yes Kelvin, I am in love with her. I can’t keep her off my mind. I have gone to the same place I met her severally, asking about her but nobody seems to even understand what I’m talking about.”
“Collins, this is really unbelievable, you’re in love?
Are you sure it is love you’re feeling or a mere pity for the girl? Kelvin asked.
“Kelvin come on, I’m a man and I know what I want”, Collins said dropping his glass.
“This calls for a celebration! My man is in love! This is unbelievable”.
“Stop this man! “, Collins chided his friend while smiling to himself.
“Alright Man, i will be taking a break from the office for one week because of the seminar I will be attending in Germany, I will work on my schedule so that I can personally accompany you to the village so that we can go in search of the angel that has stolen my friend’s heart away “, Kelvin said while refilling their glasses for a toast.
“I’m counting on you my man, I’m going crazy “, Collins said while clicking his glass with that of his friend.
“Gently gently, Man”, Kelvin cautioned.
“Cheers”, The two said in unison.
