EPISODE 3
“Ijeoma, you won’t cease to amaze me. So, Ken returned from the city and you chose not to inform me so that I can come and take my own goodies, Ekene said frowning her face.
The two was returning from the market, late in the evening.
“Ekene, don’t tell me you’ve been thinking of my Fiancé, Ken is not yet back. He will be returning in two months time. His number has not been reachable for months now but I’m glad we will see each other soon. I have missed my Ken so much and I can’t wait to see him, I have many things to tell him”, Ijeoma said smiling to herself.
“Wait a second, Ijeoma. Are you being serious? Ekene asked surprised.
“Yes of course”, Ijeoma retorted.
“Ijeoma, I don’t think so. I met Ken on my way to the King’s palace three days ago. My brother Ikenna, even told me he is planning to take a chieftaincy title”, Ekene said.
“Ekene, you can see that today was very hectic in the market. Can you please stop this expensive jokes,” Ijeoma shouted frowning her face.
A car immediately zoomed pass them, raising large particles of dust to their faces. Ijeoma shouted.
“Is that not my Ken? she asked.
“Oohoh oh, I told you he is back and you are doubting me, Thomas!”, Ekene shouted.
She threw down her basket and rush after the car .
“Ijeoma! Ijeoma!!, Ekene called after her.
“Who are you leaving these for? She bent down to pick them up, mumbling.

“I said he is not around”, Amuche shouted while blocking her from entering into the compound.
“Amuche, please don’t do this to me. I need to see him. Your brother is my Fiancé and you know that”, Ijeoma said kneeling down.
Amuche ignored her and looked away.
“I can’t even distinguish you from the night”, she mocked.

Just that moment, a car stopped in front of the gate. And Ken stepped out.
“Kenneth Obiozoer”, Ijeoma called.
“So it is true you’re back from the city”, she asked moving closer to him but he gestured at her to stop.
“Ijeoma as you can see, I have upgraded. I don’t think I need you again as you don’t fit into my class. I should have called you to let you know but I think I should tell you that directly. I’m done!, Ken said.
Amuche, Ken’s younger sister clapped her hands.
“Ken, after what we shared. Our dreams and plans. Your promises, you promised to come back for me”, Ijeoma said as hot tears roll down her tears.
“Yes, I thought so but things changed. You’re dirty Ijeoma, you stinks poverty, I heard your drunkard father left the house for weeks now. Tell me, how do you fit in my place? You’re so wretched. You can attest to that yourself, Ken said smiling.
“Ken, are you really insulting my family”, Ijeoma asked as tears choked her throat.
“No, not at all. Am I? he asked.
“Noooooooh!!, Amuche thundered.
“I was only trying to let you know the gap between us now. I thought the world revolves around you Ijeoma, I thought you were my sunshine. Lo, I found out you’re an ancient queen, so local. My real queen is inside my room, waiting patiently for me to come and see her. Something you clearly denied me, you sanctimonious bitch!, Ken thundered.
“I’m grateful you denied me access though, or I will battling with venereal diseases now, get out of my gate so that I can drive into my house in peace or do you want to be my gate woman tonight? he mocked.
“Ken, what have I done to you that you developed such hatred for me? Even if you don’t want me again, can’t you speak to me with respect at least for the love we once shared,” Ijeoma quietly said. Her cloth was soaked with her own tears. She might not survive this heartbreak, Ken was her last hope of returning back to school. Ken was more than that, he was her eternity.
Ken ignored her and drove into his compound. He instructed his sister to lock the gate
Meanwhile, Amuche had carried out the instructions before being told.

The banging on the door woke Eberechi from her sleep.
“Who is that? she fearfully shouted.
It was in the middle of the night.
“Eberechi please open the door, I can’t find my daughter”.
Eberechi quickly opened the door on recognizing the voice outside.
“Ah ah Akunne, why are you looking so worried? Eberechi asked perplexed.
“Eberechi, is my daughter in your house? Akunne asked, frightened.
“Which of them? Eberechi inquired. It was obvious she was sleepwalking.
“Ooh-oh, Akunne grumbled stamping her feet on the ground.
“Stop scaring me Eberechi, how many daughters do I have? I mean, Ijeoma my only child.
“No!, Eberechi answered.
Akunne let out a loud scream and started rolling on the floor. Ekene quickly rushed outside.
“Mama, why are you crying? she asked, yawning and wiping her eyes.
“Ekene, I have not seen your friend, Ijeoma”, Akunne said crying.
“Mama, she went to Ken’s place, we saw him when we were returning from the market in the evening. Is she not back? Ekene asked.
“Yes my daughter, Akunne asked, still crying.
“Take it easy, Akunne, Eberechi chided.
“You know children of these days cannot be trusted, she might be laying in his arms and you are here crying like a baby. Biko(please), go home and sleep.”
“Eberechi, my daughter is not wayward”, Akunne said. I’m sorry for disturbing your peace. I’m going in search of my daughter”.
“Mama, I will go with you, Ekene said as she dashed into her room to get lantern, ignoring her mother’s side looks to stay back.
“My God will bless you my daughter, You will marry right”, Akunne prayed as they dashed into the cold night.
“Isee!, Ekene replied, shivering.
Eberechi stood fuming as she watch them disappear from sight.
“Let me see how you will enter into this house after disobeying your mother that carried you for nine months with painful labour, Stubborn girl,”, she said and angrily slammed the door behind her.
