EPISODE 2
He came very close so that I could hear the skipping of his heart.
“Are you okay”, he asked, scrutinizing me.
I drew back, my stinking self was a huge contrast to his heavily scented self.
“Yes”, I whispered.
From his expression I noticed he was not convinced but I was not bothered.
“Are you from this village? he asked.
I felt utterly embarrassed, for reasons I can’t even explain.
“I don’t know”, I retorted rudely and walked away.
He stood puzzled, watching me as I walked out of him.
I felt fulfilled, I end up embarrassing him before he do that to me.

“Mother how are you feeling now? I asked smiling. It was quite obvious that she is gradually recuperating. I was so excited.
“I’m getting better now, my daughter”, Mother said sitting up. I supported her back with a pillow to enable her relax properly.
“God bless the Samaritan woman, she must be very wealthy to fund all our bills, I exclaimed.
“Ijeoma, you need to see how everybody is praying, smiling and showering praises on her. I heard, she usually come every year to do that, mostly on her birthdays. She paid for all the patients in the ward including me. My saviour never fails”, Akunne said raising her hands to the sky.
“Mother, I was very surprised when I returned to the doctor only to be told that our hospital bills have been taken care of including your drugs and check-ups. I was astounded. It has been my dream, to put smiles on the faces of the needy, just like her but how can I achieve that, when I dropped out of school few months ago”, I said, feeling sad.
“Everything will be fine, my daughter. You need to see through this phase. You will go back to school very soon, be strong for us okay?
I looked at Mother and nodded, probably to make her feel better but inside me was a void waiting to be filled.

“Son! are you there? Ma Gladys asked as he knocked on his door.
Collins opened the door to meet the worried face of his Nanny. she had served the household for twenty seven years, since he was born.
“Mother, I will be out shortly”, he quickly answered.
He calls her “Mother”.
Fifteen minutes later, he was seated in the dinning room.
“Your favourite today, rice and plantain”, Ma Gladys said smiling as she dished out the food.
Collins chuckled.
“I perceived the aroma when I returned from work, I knew you were up to something”, he said faking a smile.
“Son, I noticed you have not been cheerful as you used to be these days. Are you having a hard time at work, or you’re still brooding over your father’s death. Did Mom come up with any troubles again? she asked visibly concerned.
“No, none of these, Mother. I’m okay, I guess it’s all stress”, he quickly answered.
“Son, I know you too well. I raised you myself so I know when you’re not feeling fine, Gladys said peering into his eyes.
“Speak up son, I’m willing to help”.
“Okay, Mother, I think I’m in love”, Collins said, softly.
