Ketanji Brown Jackson: What It Means For Young Black Girls

It is a win for young black girls out there with big dreams, the message from Justice Jackson to young black girl is to go and dream, she has created avenue for them to be able to dream in a highly divided world based on racial status. She is a huge role model to admire in chasing career not only in law profession but trusting your gut in moving forward and figuring it out yourself in chasing dream. She served as a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, before nominated by President Joe Biden to fill in the void left by Stephen Breyer in U.S Supreme Court.

In a time where the motivation is really low, then come positivity when Ketanji was confirmed by the Senate ranging 53-47, 50 Democrats and 3 Republicans, it is historic moment to serve as first black woman in that position, Ketanji historic appointment spread all over the world for young black girls inspiring to make the difference in the society with limited opportunity to represent, the announcement is that you grind in my name. Born on September 14, 1970, grew up in Miami, she had dreamed about going into law and holding judicial appointment, she attended Harvard Law School and was a supervising editor of the Harvard Law Review and graduated in 1996.

Obama had nominated Jackson to serve as a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to the seat vacated by retiring Judge Henry Kennedy Jr. she has been praised by her integrity, and confirmed by the full Senate by voice vote on March 22, 2013. The same Justice she replaced at the Supreme Court sworn her in May 2013. Jackson wrote many decisions against Trump administration, one of the infamous observations was when she said “presidents are not kings”.

There have been indications that she would likely be as liberal as Justice Stephen Breyer, the justice she replaced. It is a milestone achievement for her in professional career as has been recognized one of the best legal minds in the country, with her elevation in apex court of the country. A new role model for young black girls to look up to, it is always tough in such society but with what she has done in pushing for your career, young black girl will forever admire her.
