African Writers Who Inspired Literature

Literature is what we see everyday in our life, it involves our activities as human being. Here are writers with their indefatigable efforts inspired literature in Africa. These are the African writers who inspired many people.

CHINUA ACHEBE

Chinua Achebe is modern day father of Africa’s literature. He is one of the African writers. His choice of writing is second to none with its authenticity. Achebe is an inspiring writer, who his words are like a sword, at the time he published his first novel ‘Things Fall Apart’ which was a breakthrough for him, in his writing career reaching out millions of people who shared the same story or have the same historical experience which is attached to ‘Things Fall Apart’. Achebe wrote many books, which he was praised by the way he writes, picking his words carefully enriched by Africa’s heritage and culture. He was qouted by Nelson Mandela who said ” A man in whose writing the prison wall fell down”.

CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE

She is source of inspiration to women out there. She ventured into science course first, before she discovered herself and move to the destination she got the attention of many people in the world. She has wrote many books and represented women very well. ‘Purple Hibiscus’ the book she wrote to depicts the flaws of strict parents, religion and corrupt society. She has spoken to Harvard graduates. And nominated as one of the most influential people in Africa, she made a contribution in Africa’ literature.

LEOPOLD SENGHOR

Senghor the man who pioneered Senegal’s independent. Senghor was one of the finest poets in Africa, he used his skill to achieve his political views through his writings, creating the rythm that flows politically. He was a major figure in Africa’s literature and political background his poem ‘Chaka’ which he used to settle wars that was fast rising in South Africa prior to issue of tribe, he struggled to liberate Senegal and became the first president of Senegal.

KOFI AWOONOR

Kofi Awoonor is a Ghanaian poet who writes exclusively in decolonizing Africa. His work was centered in helping Africa gain their independent from colonial masters. He wrote many poems and his view of clash of culture he is an icon when you talk about Africa’s literature, comparing the native culture and the culture the colonial masters brought to Africa, which he depicts precisely in his poem ‘The Anvil and the Hammer’ which he said ‘Caught between the anvil and hammer’ he sees that the two culture have clashed there by leaving many people in dilemma over the native culture or foreign culture.

WOLE SOYINKA

He is grey man of literature, when you talk about literature he is exclusively in it, the history of Africa’s literature is incomplete without recognizing him, group of aspiring African writers would be proud of him. Soyinka was into theatre at the same time with his writing which gained him the first Africa honored with Nobel prize in literature. His writing is exceptional, his view on politics and humanity, he was fearless when he talked about the flaws of politicians, and stand for humanity. He was sent to prison during his country’s civil war, citing his involvement which he denied, during his stay in prison he wrote ‘The man died’ a book he wrote while he was incarcerated, using toilet papers after they kept him complete isolation from writing materials.
