The foundation that held Nigeria together has broken into pieces, not like there are times when the country was built on solid foundation, but the state of nation has gone from worse to worst, there is no foundation, it is just hanging on air. The situation has deteriorated into something very similar to lawless country. This has been a problem but Nigerians have been unfortunate and unable to find someone who rules and align his policies with the will of people, and this cause a problem of a lifetime.
Agitations are not new in Nigeria, due to some people feel like they own Nigeria and others feel like they want to separate. The major force in the country which is the north and the south, often times they have failed to have a common ground on the approach to the country’s governance, to the extent of asking the extreme question of, why are they living together? while secession could be the solution, threatening the coexistence of Nigeria.
It is saddening that the country still experiences internal and self-inflicted pain which they could have move forward from a long time ago due to the zeal to keep the country in the poverty of the mind, and no liberation of thinking forward, all these problems are still active and play major role in keeping the country in the dark.
Major actors in Nigeria’s crisis
Kidnapping ‘bandits’ is now a lucrative business in the northern part of the country, school pupils and young girls are the targeted victim. And the country claim to have any kind of security outfit, and such states still have governors. It is uncultured and pathetic, that the country is running in high deficit, still the government has money to pay ‘bandits’ while during this administration, education has gone down to cripple state due lack of funding, it is now traditional for tertiary institutions to embark on long-term strike. It is about time Nigeria think about the future of the country, if truly they are intention to move forward. Farmers have been chased out of their farms due to Fulani herdsmen attack on them, and they now feared to go to farm again.
There is always root cause to an action, those agitating for separation have every cause to do so, when security is not guaranteed and the government is comfortable with it, it calls for an action. In a country where the government will put all the energy to arrest freedom fighters and glorify kidnappers and terrorists. In a country where fundamental human rights are just on paper alone, and daily basis citizenry encounter all kinds of abuse from government agencies.
Recently the progress of the country has been marred by nepotism, and it is very obvious. Some are regard more important than others by this current administration, and this is one of the biggest threats which has faced Nigeria’s unity. These issues will continue to hunt Nigeria, until they face the problem without sentiments, the country will keep living in despotic inflicted territory. Until the government of the populace is put into practice, nothing else is going to work.
